About Lambda Sigma

Lambda Sigma National Honors Society was founded in the fall of 1922 at the University of Pittsburgh, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As stated in the National Handbook: "Lambda Sigma Society, a national honor society for second year students, is dedicated to the purpose of fostering leadership, scholarship, fellowship and service among its members as they promote the interests of the colleges and universities they represent."

The Beta Xi chapter of Lambda Sigma was chartered during the 2015-2016 Academic year at Jackson State University, in Jackson, Mississippi. Beta Xi is also the first and only Lambda Sigma chapter chartered at a Historically Black College and University (HBCU). We, the members of the Beta Xi chapter of Lambda Sigma National Honors Society at Jackson State University, intend to promote and contribute to the Jackson State philosophies of “challenging minds and changing lives” by incorporating our society’s own principles of leadership, scholarship, fellowship and service with transparency, acuity and careful understanding of the needs of our peers, faculty/staff, and surrounding community.
